The eyes are one of the most delicate sense organs in the human body. According to several doctors, excessive heat can be dangerous to the eyes as it may result in vision problems. It is often witnessed that people who stay longer in front of excessive heat suffer from loss of vision. This doesn’t happen in one day but staying in heat for a prolonged time can cause these problems in our eyes. Hence, it is very important to pay attention to keep our eyesight strong.

As the temperature is rising day by day our eyes are highly impacted by the summer heat. The temperature in many places is recorded to be around 40 to 45 degrees Celsius while at many places, it feels like 50 degrees due to humidity. Our eyes are very vulnerable to this harsh environment. Due to this solar radiation many face problems like dry eyes, eye strain and reduced vision. Many other problems can occur due to this heat according to several ophthalmologists. Here are some easy tips to protect our eyes this summer:

Keep the eyes moist: To protect the eyes, it is advisable to wash them with cold water as soon as you return from outside even if you are inside an air-conditioned room.

Avoid rubbing your eyes: Avoid rubbing your eyes with bare hands can be very harmful as the dirt in the hands tends to affect the eyes. A person facing irritation due to heat should apply cooling eye drops.

Look away from screens: As recommended by many doctors, a person who generally uses smartphones and computers for hours should look away from the screen every 20 minutes and focus on any distant object. This helps the eyes to relax.

Take proper protection from UV rays: During summer, the sun’s ultraviolet rays can highly damage the eyes. A person going out in this heat should wear sunglasses with UV protection.

Consumption of fruit and water: The body easily gets dehydrated in the scorching heat. Consuming fruits like watermelon and cucumber and drinking plenty of water helps to keep the body and eyes hydrated.
