Vincent Kompany is to begin a new chapter of his coaching career and this time, he wants the fans of his new club to pronounce his name correctly. The former Manchester City captain has been appointed as the manager of Bayern Munich, succeeding Thomas Tuchel. The German club parted ways with Tuchel after the team finished third in the Bundesliga this season. Kompany has signed a three-year contract with Bayern Munich. Before taking over the helm at Allianz Arena, the former Belgian addressed the media and shared an anecdote about the pronunciation of his first name, “Vincent.”

“So my name is actually pronounced ‘Vincent’. But I played in Hamburg for two years. And it never worked because it is hard to pronounce for Germans I guess. That’s why ‘Vincent’ or ‘Vinny’ is totally fine,” Vincent Kompany said during his first press conference as the Bayern Munich boss. The club shared the footage on Instagram and asked fans to “take note”.
Before coming to Germany, Kompany managed the Premier League club Burnley, He helped the club earn promotion to the English top tier by winning the Championship title. Burnley once again got relegated this season. They managed to secure only five wins and finished 19th in the Premier League table with 24 points.
Despite his poor campaign in England, the Bayern hierarchy showed faith in Vincent Kompany. Confirming his appointment, the club wrote in a statement, “FC Bayern have confirmed Vincent Kompany as their new head coach. The 38-year-old has agreed a contract with the German record champions through to 30 June 2027. The former Belgium international most recently managed English Premier League club Burnley.”
Kompany, who won four Premier League titles as the captain of Manchester City, will look to bring back the golden days to Bayern Munich. Speaking about his new job, the 38-year-old said, “It’s a great honour to be able to work for this club – FC Bayern is an institution in international football. As a coach, you have to stand for what you are as a character: I love having the ball and being creative. But we also have to be aggressive and courageous on the pitch, as quoted by Sport Bible.
Kompany agreed to a five-year contract extension with Burnley last season. He, however, resigned from the role at the end of the Premier League season. Before joining Burnley, Kompany coached a Belgian side Anderlecht.
