'Chicago Won it for me': Cody Rhodes Was ‘Embrassed and Dejected’ Before Epic Fight Against Seth Rollins

WWE Universal Champion Cody Rhodes has developed a huge fanbase with his never-give-up mentality. The support was evident when the company decided to replace Rhodes with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the WrestleMania roster earlier in April. After fans showed their displeasure, WWE was forced to book the American Nightmare for a title match against Roman Reigns.

Rhodes first started hitting headlines when he beat Seth Rollins consecutively at WrestleMania 38 and WWE Backlash. The duo once again met inside the steel structure at Hell in a Cell and this time again, Rhodes had the last laugh

Rhodes, who competed with an injury, recently reminisced about the match on a social media post. The steel cage fight might have been cancelled after Rhodes tore his pec during a training season. WWE, however, wanted the fight to take place, considering the hype among fans.

Despite struggling with the injury, Rhodes put up a neck-and-neck battle against Rollins. After winning the match, Rhodes underwent surgery and had to take a break from WWE to recover. Glimpses of the battle recently surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “2 years ago today, Cody Rhodes wrestled Seth Rollins with a torn pec. Absolutely Wild.”

I didn’t win this match, Chicago won it for meI was so embarrassed and dejected, nothing in the eyes and just enough left in the tank for one dance

Just the clips are wild enough for me https://t.co/ErcTaTSUno

The American Nightmare reposted the footage and shared that he felt “embarrassed and dejected” while going into the Hell in a Cell event. “I didn’t win this match, Chicago won it for me. I was so embarrassed and dejected, with nothing in my eyes and just enough left in the tank for one dance. Just the clips are wild enough for me,” Rhodes wrote on X.

As far as his next big assignment is concerned, Cody Rhodes is expected to defend his Universal Championship title at the WWE Clash at the Castle, scheduled for June 15. He will go up against AJ Styles, who has kept his eyes on the coveted title for a long time. The duo earlier clashed at WWE Backlash where Rhodes secured a comfortable win to retain the title.

On the last episode of Friday Night SmackDown, AJ Styles launched a surprise attack on Rhodes after teasing his retirement. Styles were supported by Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows who are also desperate to dethrone Rhodes. While Rhodes is set to take revenge at Clash at the Castle, WWE has yet to confirm if his Universal Championship will be on the line.
