Thomas Tuchel Turns Down Manchester United Manager Offer Despite Meeting Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Says Report

Former Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel will reportedly not join the Manchester United camp despite having a chat with the club’s new investor Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

The Red Devils are keen on breathing some fresh life into their team management from next season. Given the situation, Tuchel emerged as one of the leading candidates to replace Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford as manager if the Dutchman gets removed from his position.

Now a report from The Telegraph has emerged claiming that the ex-Bayern Munich manager will not be moving to Old Trafford in the coming season. The report says – “Thomas Tuchel has decided against becoming Manchester United’s new head coach should the club choose to sack Erik ten Hag.”

Tuchel reportedly had some detailed discussions with Sir Jim Ratcliffe in Monaco last week. A development in their talks would have seen Manchester United decide on Erik ten Hag’s future with the club. However, the same report suggests that Tuchel is now looking to take some time off the sport. The German manager is currently considering a year’s break from the game.

Speaking of his season, Tuchel had a forgettable 2023-24 campaign with Bayern Munich. Despite signing Tottenham Hotspur’s star striker Harry Kane, Tuchel was unable to guide the Bavarian giants to a trophy. Xabi Alonso-coached Bayer Leverkusen put up an unbeaten Bundesliga season to pip Bayern for the league title.

In the Champions League, Bayern Munich failed to get the better of the eventual winners Real Madrid. Tuchel was succeeded by Manchester City icon Vincent Kompany at Bayern Munich.

Tuchel had previously expressed his desire to return to the Premier League at any point in the future. “It is no secret that I loved it at Chelsea, I loved it in England, and I loved it in the Premier League for sure. It was a very, very special time in England, and I remember it well,” Tuchel said.

Coming back to Erik ten Hag, the Dutchman recently guided Manchester United to an FA Cup victory against Manchester City. Under Ten Hag, Manchester United registered an eighth-place finish in the Premier League last season.
