Apple has a very strict Apps Store policy that can be hard to circumvent for bad actors and the company has now shared details about its actions against such apps. Apple claims it has blocked more than 1.5 million app submissions in the App Store that were breaking its App Store policies and rules.
In fact, between 2020 and 2023, Apple has stopped more than 14 million stolen credit cards from being used to make payments for apps.
Blocking Fraud Payments And Apps: How Apple Does It
Apple says it has set up a team that monitors and investigates any possible fraudulent activity and makes use of advanced technology to remove and block these bad actors before they create a big issue, which makes the App Store reliable and secure for the users. It has a team of 500 employees that vet all the apps from around the world before they get the clearance to be published on the App Store.
The company mentioned this team is able to review 132,500 apps every week, and the total count of apps vetted was 6.9 million in 2023. Having a mix of human and tech screening of these apps seem to have helped Apple act on millions of apps with intent to harm its customers.
These efforts have helped Apple prevent fraud transactions worth $1.8 billion (Rs 15,000 crore approx) in 2023, and even removed accounts of 374 million developers who engaged in apps that were doing nefarious activities.
More importantly, the company also took care of almost 152 million ratings and reviews of apps on the App Store owing to their possible links to the fraud and illegal developers hosting their apps for the users.
Apple isn’t the only one acting on fraud apps and payments. Google has also shared its efforts to block fraud loan apps that have created a big mess in countries like India over the past few years. Google’s Play Protect measures have been questioned because you see reports about malicious apps existing in the Play Store but it is surely working towards making Android safer as well.
