Google Is Already Planning For Ads In AI Search: How It Might Work

Google showed us glimpses of the AI-powered Search at the I/O 2024 keynote earlier this month which has content publishers worried. However, the company already seems to be planning for the future, where AI-enabled search will give you ads that it claims will offer a more personalised touch to your shopping or search experience.

AI-Powered Search With Ads: What It Could Offer

The testing by Google suggests it wants to tailor the searches based on the preferences and needs of the user. Google’s use of AI could help them narrow down the purchase options. For instance, if you are looking for a premium sneaker within a certain budget, the AI version of Search will not only show you these options. It will also come with the size and fitting options, consider your physical needs and shortlist the best ones and finally guide you to the website where the product is available where you can make the payment and order the item.

Google is testing the AI search ads for select verticals right now but it is assumed that once the company sees there is a definite use case and need for these tools, it will expand the base to other segments like travel, health, finance and more.

Ads In AI Search: Will It Work?

Ads in Search have served companies over the years but consumers feel hard done because they are using the service for free. Ads in the AI avatar of Search wants to enrich the experience of the user which might go either way but there is a possibility that an ad-free Search option might also become a viable model for Google who would eventually look to make money from these verticals in the near future.

After all, running these advanced AI models need heavy computing power which costs a lot of money that the likes of Google are investing in to benefit when the technology becomes a core part of everyone’s life.
