An Australian bishop was rushed to the hospital after he was stabbed multiple times during a service, news.com.au said in a report. Bishop Mar Mari was attacked while delivering sermons in Wakeley, about 30 km (18 miles) west of the Sydney central business district. Several others were also injured in the stabbing.

Officers arrested a male and he is assisting police with inquiries, a police statement said.

The injured people suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are being treated by paramedics, police said.

Footage posted on social media shows the bishop speaking when a man walks up to him and starts stabbing his face and neck. In the video footage, screams are heard from the crowd and many rushed forward to help the wounded man.

A separate report by The Sydney Morning Herald said the attack occurred at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley. The New South Wales police said several victims have “non-life threatening injuries and are being treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics”.

They said that an operation is now underway and have told people to avoid the area.

Three people were injured and are being treated. A man in his 30s suffered multiple lacerations while another man suffered a cut to his hand and another man in his 60s suffered a wound to his arm.

It’s the second stabbing incident in Sydney after six people were killed in a knife attack at a mall in Sydney’s Bondi area on Saturday.
