Ganga Dussehra 2024: A Day To Cleanse Sins And Celebrate The Holy River

In the Hindu religion, there are various kinds of festivals. Ganga Dussehra is considered to be one of the most important ones. The festival is celebrated with gaiety and reverence every year. The festival is dedicated to the river Ganga and the river Ganga is celebrated. In Sanatan Dharma, the auspicious festival of Ganga Dussehra holds religious as well as spiritual significance. Believers offer puja and bathe in the Ganga river.

On the day of Ganga Dussehra, people perform the ritual and bathe in the river Ganga to get rid of the sins that they have committed. It is also believed that all the negativity from one’s life is removed if he/she takes a bath in the river.

Every year, Ganga Dussehra is celebrated on Dashami of Shukla Paksha. It is performed in the Jyeshtha month. According to Bhopal resident astrologer Acharya Pandit Yogesh Choure, this year, Ganga Dussehra will be celebrated on June 16. The auspicious time of the day will start at 7:08 a.m. and end at 10:37 a.m. According to the religious texts, bathing during this time is believed to be the best time for bathing.

According to the religious texts, celebrating Ganga Dussehra liberates devotees from 10 different types of sins. Bathing in the Ganga during the auspicious time of Ganga Dussehra can liberate the devotee from sins like forbidden violence, stealing something, stubbornness in doing meaningless things, adultery, backbiting, thinking of stealing from someone’s wealth, using harsh words, thinking ill of other people, lying, and thinking ill of other people.

There are some rules to abide by to make this rare moment of Ganga Dussehra more useful and get you liberated from your sins. Devotees should pay attention to some details. The devotees should meditate on the goddess Ganga and then bathe in the Ganga river. During this time, the devotees should maintain the purity of their minds. One should not have any impure thoughts while bathing in the river on Ganga Dussehra. They should not throw any havan or puja material in the river, on this day. Immersing bones in the river is also forbidden on this day.

According to the Hindu religious scriptures, the river Ganga descended on earth due to the punishment of the Kind Bhagirath. For this reason, the river Ganga is still worshipped on Earth, to this day. Hence, it is a common religious belief that taking a bath in the Ganga River can relieve someone of their sins and troubles.
