Apple Watches have proven to be a lifesaver for many of its users. With its innovative technology and high-end sensors that measure heart rate, ECG, and Blood Pressure the gadget is something sort of like a guardian angel on your wrist who is monitoring your health and ready to call for help in any case of emergency.

Recently, the Apple Watch’s fall detection feature turned out to be a lifesaver for a New York-based cyclist, Eric Zollinger, after he survived a horrific road accident. The incident happened last month when Eric was riding his bike during his routine commute home. It was during torrential rain, that a pothole submerged beneath the flooded roads, causing him to lose control of his bike and crash onto the pavement.

Despite sustaining a few injuries on the face, nose, and knee, Zollinger somehow managed to walk back home. While showering, he noticed a significant blood loss from his nose and later collapsed inside his bathroom, hitting the side of the tub. Fortunately, he was wearing his Apple Watch, as this was the moment when the gadget came into action.

As soon as the device detected a hard fall, the watch self-initiated a call to helpline number 911 which connected the cyclist to the emergency responder. After regaining consciousness, he was surprised to hear the operator’s voice coming from his watch, who was asking for Zollinger about his well-being and necessary assistance.

The rapid response enabled by the smartwatch proved to be crucial in ensuring that the cyclist needed medical assistance.

Well, this is not the only case, where a smartwatch played a life-saver. Last year, a UK-based man shared how the device helped him survive a heart attack. As per a report by express.co.uk, the incident took place when the man felt acute pain in his chest (an indication of a Heart attack) during his morning run. He somehow managed to contact his wife via his smartwatch who rushed him to the hospital for urgent medical assistance.

The Apple Watch also has a crash detection feature in which the device will automatically contact the emergency services if it detects a severe crash.
