This exemption, outlined in an office memorandum dated May 27, 2024, is aimed at facilitating the rapid deployment of renewable energy infrastructure essential for producing green hydrogen and its derivatives within these zones.
The move is in accordance with the approval from the Minister for power & new and renewable energy R. K. Singh and is designed to spur significant advancements in the country's green hydrogen initiatives.
The ALMM regulations, which mandate the compulsory registration of solar PV modules used in Indian projects, have been adjusted to ensure that projects committed to green hydrogen production can proceed without the typical regulatory delays associated with module approval.
The exemption is applicable to all relevant renewable energy projects commissioned by December 31, 2030. This strategic exemption is expected to significantly boost the production capabilities of green hydrogen plants by allowing them to source power more flexibly and cost-effectively, thereby advancing India's clean energy goals and its commitment to reducing carbon emissions.
