With the latest, AIP's High-Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) process, it subjects the molten metal to high pressure within a mould, to achieve contours and desired geometry, resulting in pistons with minimal machining requirements.
New Delhi:
The 55 year old company, Abilities India Pistons & Rings Ltd. (Abilities India) has on Friday announced the granting of its second patent for its High-Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) process that aids for lightweight piston manufacturing.

Abilities India, the manufacturers of Pistons, piston rings, gravity casting, pressure die casting, and coatings, told ETAuto that with the help of its second patent the company aims INR 160 cr revenue in FY 2024-2025 and INR 225 cr for FY26.

The second patent technology aids in reducing the weight of 2W or 3W pistons by 10-15%, which also reduces annual aluminum saving of 307.5 tons based on the current annual output of 20 million 2W/3W vehicles, the founders said.

Bet on its technology

The company, which was recognised by CII among the top 50 innovative companies, aims to support the self-reliance goals of leading Indian OEMs with an intent of doubling its R&D team size through the allocation of 3% of its revenue fund into this.

Traditionally, pistons for gasoline and diesel engines are produced using the Gravity Die Casting (GDC) process, which is utilised for mass production. Though it has thicker wall thicknesses and higher machining allowances.

With the latest, AIP's High-Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) process, it subjects the molten metal to high pressure within a mould, to achieve contours and desired geometry, resulting in pistons with minimal machining requirements. When applied to different types of pistons, this represents a major advancement in engine component technology and addresses strict pollution rules for engines that are both 2-stroke and 4-stroke.

The procedure takes into account the automobile industry's changing requirements, which include the need for lightweight, high-performance components and tighter emission rules.

Half and Half

Abilities India, through its patented technologies aims to crack both the domestic and international market. For which the company plans to apply for 6 more patents this year, told Tushar Arora,Tushar Arora, the Jt. MD and CEO of AIP to ETAuto.

Talking about expansion plans, Sunil Arora, Managing Director and Chairman of Abilities India Pistons & Rings Ltd. said, it aims to earn 46% - 47% of revenue from its exports. While in India, the company is already in talks with two major Indian OEMs for tie-up. However, when ETAuto enquired about the names, MD said it cannot be disclosed at present.

At present the company’s current client portfolio includes Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Yamaha Motor India, Honda India Power Products Ltd, TVS Motors Company etc. With its exports in the USA, Europe, Japan, China, and South America. Sunil Arora, Chairman and MD, Abilities India Pistons & Rings Ltd. said, " Our second patent underscores our unwavering commitment to innovation and sustainability in automotive manufacturing. With the development of this cutting-edge manufacturing process, we are improving engine performance and actively reducing emissions, thus shaping the future of automotive technology. This milestone reinforces our position as leaders in sustainable and efficient solutions for the global mobility domain."
