Volvo Car India initiates The Reverse Project: mission to convert kilometres into trees

As part of this project, Volvo has planted five trees for every EV it has sold and offers to plant four trees for owners of other EV brands who join the initiative.
Volvo Car India has launched the Reverse Project to combat environmental damage by planting trees based on the mileage of electric vehicles (EVs), regardless of the brand. Initially, the company has partnered with ASSOCHAM to plant 10,000 trees, transforming a Ghaziabad dump yard into an urban forest.

As part of this project, Volvo has planted five trees for every EV it has sold and offers to plant four trees for owners of other EV brands who join the initiative. Other EV owners who participate can have trees named after them, based on the mileage they have driven. Non-EV owners can also join the initiative by taking a pledge. This effort underscores Volvo's commitment to sustainability and aims for a greener future.

Volvo Car India will maintain the urban forest for the next four years. The transformation of the former landfill from a garbage and construction waste dump into a green urban space is a testament to the project’s progress.

Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director, Volvo Car India, said, "The Reverse Project gives car owners all over India an opportunity to contribute towards reversing the environmental damage. Not only will Volvo Car dedicate 5 trees for every Volvo EV bought but will also extend a similar opportunity to other EV owners. Irrespective of where you are in India and what EV you drive, once you register on the Reverse Project site 4 trees at the Urban Forest will be named after you for every 5000 kilometres that you drive. What better way to turn kilometres into trees. For non-EV users once they take a pledge, 3 trees will be named on their behalf."

The Reverse Project is aligned with Volvo Car India's broader objective of promoting sustainability and achieving net carbon neutrality by 2040. The company is dedicated to transforming urban dump yards into urban forests as part of their environmental efforts. Participants in the project will receive a certificate recognizing their contribution.

Deepak Sood, Secretary General of ASSOCHAM & Trustee from ASSOCHAM Foundation for CSR, said, "This collaborative effort by Volvo and AFCSR sets a commendable example for the industry. It reflects the transformative impact that can be achieved through collective environmental responsibility. AFCSR stands firmly behind such initiatives, acknowledging the vital role of shaping a sustainable future."

The Reverse Project offers a unique opportunity for all EV owners and non-EV users across India to contribute towards reversing environmental damage through an innovative tree-planting initiative. This project highlights Volvo Car India’s dedication to fostering a sustainable and healthier environment.
