The factors include road jams during day or night hours, pattern and timing of traffic jams, volume of vehicles during day and night hours, unauthorised parking on streets and other reasons. There are around 22 stretches across the district including trans-Ganga and trans-Yamuna that are prone to frequent traffic jams. With the volume of vehicles increasing every day, particularly the number of e-rickshaws along with unauthorised parking on streets specially in old city areas, traffic police authorities have drafted plans to improve traffic scenario in city.
DCP (traffic) Ashutosh Dwivedi told TOI, “Senior traffic police authorities have coordinated with tempo-taxi union office bearers, Commissionerate police officials, RTO and other departments to chalk out final plan to fix route for e-rickshaws in city, trans Ganga and trans Yamuna pockets of the district. There will be different colours of e-rickshaws to be plied on different routes”. DCP, meanwhile, said that additional traffic police personnel and home guards have already been assigned duties at prominent crossings, intersections and routes to streamline traffic and once the route for e-rickshaws was finalised, there would be free flow of the traffic.
The authorities of traffic police prepared a detailed report about the spots facing frequent jam like situation included Johnstonganj, Baihrana, Phaphamau Ganga bridge, Shastri bridge, Naini bridge, old Naini bridge, Rambagh, Bai Ba Bag, Bahadurganj, chowk, Mutthiganj, Civil Lines, Chowk, Kareli, Leader road, station road, Sulemsarai, Sardar Patel Marg, – Nawab Yusufroad, Laxman market, Teliyarganj, and adjoining streets.
District traffic police authorities are also drawing the list of heavy traffic congestion spots in the city which often witness jams due to multiple reasons. These include frequent breaking down of vehicles, accidents, terrible road conditions and unauthorised parking on busy roads. Senior cops are reviewing the status of parking slots – particularly near prime markets zones and signalling systems. The traffic police authorities are also taking help of ICCC (Integrated Command & Control Centre) to compile all required inputs and chalking out plans accordingly. Officials are of view that use of Google Maps, which shows traffic conditions on roads in real time could be a better idea to improve traffic scenario.
