Toyota to construct EV battery plant for Lexus vehicles

While Toyota confirmed it was aware of the report, it stated that no official announcement had been made. The company is actively enhancing its EV battery production capabilities.

Toyota Motor plans to establish an electric vehicle battery plant in Fukuoka, located in southwestern Japan, to supply batteries for its Lexus luxury cars, according to Nikkei. The company aims to make the island of Kyushu a key hub for its EV supply chain and an export center for Asia.

While Toyota confirmed it was aware of the report, it stated that no official announcement had been made. The company is actively enhancing its EV battery production capabilities.

Toyota produces Lexus vehicles at its Miyata plant in Toyota Motor Kyushu. The automaker has announced plans to launch EVs with next-generation batteries globally from 2026, produced by its BEV Factory unit. It aims to achieve annual sales of 3.5 million EVs by 2030, with nearly half coming from BEV Factory. In 2023, Toyota sold 104,000 EVs.

Nikkei, which did not disclose its sources, noted that the details regarding the investment amount and construction start date for the new battery plant are still pending. The plant will be operated by Primearth EV Energy, a Toyota subsidiary specializing in batteries for various types of vehicles.
