The eFan system has been designed to accommodate operating temperatures from minus 40 degrees Celsius up to 80 degrees Celsius. Its modular design allows customers to scale components to meet specific requirements and standards. BorgWarner's system also delivers best-in-class noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) performance, with optimized fan geometry that performs best at speeds less than 3,000 RPM, which is beneficial for noise-sensitive scenarios like battery charging.
“As the industry continues to put a heavy focus on reducing emissions, the need for high performing power electronic components is essential,” said Volker Weng, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager, Turbos and Thermal Technologies. “Our sophisticated and efficient eFan system has the scalability to meet specific customer requirements, with a wide voltage range and liquid-cooling for long-term reliability. I’m proud of our team for growing our relationship with this global OEM by winning this business and providing yet another solution that enables a more sustainable future.”
The technology’s e-motor and power electronics are liquid-cooled, ensuring compactness and robustness for long-term operation. BorgWarner’s eFan portfolio is designed to meet the needs of various heavy-duty commercial vehicle applications, including both battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and fuel cell electric vehicles. For high-power segment applications, the system can provide up to 40 kW and 160 Nm.
Customers have the flexibility to tailor interfaces and connectors, and they can choose specific system parts, such as external or integrated inverters and open or ring fans. This flexibility underscores the modular design of the eFan system, allowing it to scale and adapt according to customer specifications.
This new contract underscores BorgWarner's commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable mobility solutions. The company's high-voltage eFan system promises to contribute significantly to the better performance and reliability of heavy-duty battery electric vehicles, facilitating a more sustainable future.
