The bus manufacturers across the country had participated in one of the meetings held recently, some of them being Tata, Ashok Leyland, Mazda, Bharat Benz, Suzuki, and Volvo.
The UPSRTC has started holding meetings with the manufacturers of buses to decide what type of buses can be best used during the Maha Kumbh. Funds of INR 1,000 crore were allocated to UPSRTC in the supplementary budget for purchase of buses for Maha Kumbh slated to be held next year.

The officials in the meeting asked each of the manufacturers about how many buses they can provide in the next five months. The bus manufacturers have also been asked about their production capacities. The Corporation was given INR 500 cr in the budget in February also to buy new buses for the Maha Kumbh. The fund is being used to purchase 120 electric buses and 1,000 diesel buses. “The target is to get the buses by November,” said spokesperson, UPSRTC, Ajit Singh.

The bus manufacturers across the country had participated in one of the meetings held recently, some of them being Tata, Ashok Leyland, Mazda, Bharat Benz, Suzuki, and Volvo.

The buses that will ply during Maha Kumbh will be of improved emission norms as the state govt is focusing on making the event environment friendly. Among the categories of buses that the Corporation is mulling to buy are sleeper buses, AC Janrath buses, electric buses, and the ordinary diesel buses, as well.

Apart from Prayagraj, these environment-friendly buses will be operated in cities with religious significance like Varanasi, Ayodhya and Mathura-Vrindavan as well as Lucknow and Gorakhpur. Meanwhile, UPSRTC will soon recruit 10,000 conductors.
