The eXD is part of BorgWarner's electric torque management system (eTMS) portfolio, which enhances vehicle stability, dynamic performance, and traction during launch and acceleration. In electric vehicles, high motor torque can result in performance limitations, as torque application to individual wheels often lacks supervision. The eXD addresses this issue by allowing intelligent modulation of side-to-side torque. This results in improved traction, better cornering, and enhanced lane-change performance, thereby increasing driving safety and efficiency even in challenging driving conditions.

Operating on demand, the eXD features an on-board integrated controller that meets requirements ranging from cyber security to functional safety. It also includes adaptive control of wheel slip, reducing brake system usage and consequently lowering the emission of non-exhaust particulate matter.
