BorgWarner secures BEV electric cross differential contracts from 3 Global OEMs

The eXD is part of BorgWarner's electric torque management system (eTMS) portfolio, which enhances vehicle stability, dynamic performance, and traction during launch and acceleration.
BorgWarner has secured contracts to supply its electric cross differential (eXD) technology to three major automotive OEMs, including GAC Motor, a Global East Asian OEM, and a Global OEM based in Europe. This technology will be integrated into both rear- and front-wheel-drive battery electric vehicles (BEVs) across various models such as sports cars, premium sedans, and hatchbacks. Production for GAC Motor is already underway, while production for the other OEMs will commence in 2026.

The eXD is part of BorgWarner's electric torque management system (eTMS) portfolio, which enhances vehicle stability, dynamic performance, and traction during launch and acceleration. In electric vehicles, high motor torque can result in performance limitations, as torque application to individual wheels often lacks supervision. The eXD addresses this issue by allowing intelligent modulation of side-to-side torque. This results in improved traction, better cornering, and enhanced lane-change performance, thereby increasing driving safety and efficiency even in challenging driving conditions.

The eXD technology can be applied to all vehicle architectures, including electric, hybrid, and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. It is highly customizable and scalable, offering a range of selectable modes to meet diverse vehicle performance requirements. This allows customers to program different performance characteristics and behaviors tailored to their specific platforms. The eXD employs carry-over elements from BorgWarner's established expertise in both software and hardware, ensuring reliability and adaptability.

Operating on demand, the eXD features an on-board integrated controller that meets requirements ranging from cyber security to functional safety. It also includes adaptive control of wheel slip, reducing brake system usage and consequently lowering the emission of non-exhaust particulate matter.

The technology is versatile, incorporating BorgWarner’s extensive experience in software, controls, and systems integration. The eXD's capability to improve vehicle performance, safety, and efficiency makes it a critical component in modern electric, hybrid, and ICE vehicles.
