A new smart system designed by researchers at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) aims to revolutionize how flights depart from airports, ensuring safety and efficiency.

Teaming up with the Robert Bosch Centre for Cyber-Physical Systems (RBCCPS) and the Airports Authority of India, the initiative aims to streamline flight schedules, reducing delays and ensuring smoother operations, as reported by Deccan Herald.

The innovative model, tested at Chennai International Airport, considers various factors such as taxiway availability, airspace structure, and potential flight path conflicts.

How Does It Work?

Departing flights are guided seamlessly from gates to runways via designated taxiways, without any interruptions. Once in the air, flights follow pre-defined paths and waypoints meticulously structured around the airport’s airspace.

These routes are meticulously designed to guide flights through fixed air routes towards their destination, reducing congestion and potential delays.

Furthermore, the adaptable nature of the model allows for customization to suit the specific needs of different airports, enhancing the existing tools used in airport operations.

With this revolutionary system, airports could soon witness a significant improvement in their departure processes, marking a new era in aviation efficiency.
