Suresh Babu, director of NTH, ministry of consumer affairs said, “Since the govt is also promoting ‘Made in India’ products, this testing service can help local manufacturers a lot in showing their product quality.”
An electric vehicle battery-testing services facility — the first-of-its-kind in the industry — will be established in the city at a cost of INR 15 crore.

The facility, for which Union consumer affairs minister Pralhad Joshi laid foundation stone on Thursday, will come up on one acre at the National Test House (NTH), on the Regional Reference Standard Laboratory campus in Jakkur. This cutting-edge testing facility will help South Indian EV manufacturers, especially with regard to ascertaining battery efficiency, safety standards, and meeting performance metrics.

“Bengaluru is booming especially in the EV sector. The facility will offer these testing and certification services that guarantee the highest levels of quality and safety, giving them significant support. We need more people to fast-track the EV business,” he said.

Suresh Babu, director of NTH, ministry of consumer affairs, told TOI: “Since the govt is also promoting ‘Made in India’ products, this testing service can help local manufacturers a lot in showing their product quality.”

The centre will have state-of-the-art equipment for testing, including electrical safety, functional safety, climate (IP test, UV radiation, corrosion), and mechanical and material checks (flammability, glow wire). “We have a team of experts, who will issue certificate for these batteries,” he added.
