This initiative is being carried out with the involvement of companies such as Tata and Ather Power, which will enable rapid charging for vehicles at various locations across the city.
The Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) is set to undertake the development of ten fast EV charging stations in collaboration with the Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) Indian Oil Corporation in the city. With it, the urban body will be the first in the country to implement this project with any PSU.

In the first phase, the fast four-wheeler EV charging stations are coming up at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium Premises, Gandhi Udyan, Old Smart City Limited Office Premises at Outdoor Stadium Premises, Anupam Garden in front of Central Library, and Jawahar Bazar Parking. “We are the first in the country to set up fast charging stations with PSU. In the first phase, work on the five stations has been initiated while the remaining five charging stations will come up in the second phase,” said RMC Commissioner Abinash Mishra.

Under the directives of Raipur district collector Dr Gaurav Kumar Singh, municipal commissioner Abinash Mishra and executive engineer Imran Khan conducted a site inspection to review the proposed fast EV charging stations. The municipal commissioner has instructed the speedy completion of the project after necessary discussions in the public interest.

The fast four-wheeler EV charging stations are currently operational at four locations in the capital city - the Municipal Corporation Headquarters parking area, Interstate Bus Stand at Bhatagaon, the multi-level parking in front of the Collectorate, and the old bus stand multi-level parking near Jaistamb Chowk. However, these stations have been set up by the RMC.

From April to July 2024, a total of 3499.17 units of electricity have been consumed at these EV charging stations. The revenue from these stations is approximately Rs 10.50 per unit, providing significant earnings to the RMC. The consumption of electricity at the EV charging stations has increased by about 30% each month, indicating a positive response from citizens and reflecting encouraging trends.

The EE stated that in April 2024, the four EV charging stations consumed 378.83 units of electricity.

This initiative is being carried out with the involvement of companies such as Tata and Ather Power, which will enable rapid charging for vehicles at various locations across the city.
