BPCL has strengthened its partnership with Ionage to enhance India's EV charging infrastructure.
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a Fortune Global 500 company, has strengthened its partnership with Bangalore-based eMobility service provider Ionage to enhance India's electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. Announced on 20th September 2024, this collaboration aims to improve the accessibility and convenience of EV charging, supporting the nation's transition towards sustainable mobility.

Ionage’s platform aggregates charging stations from multiple Charge Point Operators (CPOs), providing EV owners across India with access to a wide network of chargers via a single interface. This integration simplifies the process for EV owners, making it easier to locate and utilise charging stations, the company said in a media release.

BPCL’s BPC eDrive Initiative, launched in February 2022, has played a pivotal role in driving the decision to extend this partnership, with BPCL’s EV chargers now being incorporated into Ionage’s unified platform.

Pardeep Goyal, Business Head, Retail, BPCL, remarked, "We are pleased to continue our partnership with IONAGE. At BPCL, customer convenience and accessibility are of paramount importance for ensuring the efficient utilisation of charging infrastructure. Our collaboration with Ionage will allow customers to access BPC chargers via the Ionage platform, further enhancing the overall EV charging experience."

Expansion of EV charging network

Vimal Kumar, CEO of Ionage, highlighted the advantages of the extended partnership: "At Ionage, our vision is to build a comprehensive ecosystem that caters to the needs of all electric vehicle owners and operators. We are delighted to extend our partnership with BPCL, a renowned and trusted brand offering fast EV charging facilities on highways and secure places for customers to unwind during their journeys. This collaboration is key in making EV charging more reliable and accessible across India."

Collaboration

India’s shift towards electric mobility continues to gather momentum, driven by strong government support and rising consumer demand. The expansion of public charging infrastructure is critical in achieving the country's ambitious EV adoption goals by 2030. The partnership between BPCL and Ionage highlights the importance of collaboration within the industry to speed up the development of EV infrastructure.

Ionage has ambitious plans to integrate over 100,000 EV chargers onto its platform by 2028. BPCL’s continued collaboration with key partners like Ionage reflects its commitment to strengthening India’s EV infrastructure.
