The Comet is the cheapest car in the country.
The price war is escalating in electric vehicles market, with JSW MG Motor setting an aggressive INR 5 lakh (ex-showroom-Delhi) entry threshold for the zero-emission mobility segment.

Led by its battery rental model where customers only pay for the vehicle with running cost being charged on a per km battery usage basis, the Comet mini electric is now available for an entry price of INR 5 lakh, which is INR 2 lakh lower than its current price. MG said that those opting for the Comet's new pricing will need to pay INR 2.5 per km of running as rental for the battery. This is the second time the model has seen a price cut as it had seen a reduction by INR 1 lakh earlier.

With this, the Comet is the cheapest car in the country. The closest rival for the model in EVs is the Tata Tiago, which is priced at INR 8 lakh.

"We believe that this unique initiative of giving Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) will boost the adoption of zero-emission cars in the country. We have created a platform for easy ownership, making our EVs more accessible than ever," Satinder Singh Bajwa, chief commercial officer of JSW MG Motor, said. The company had started the battery rental model with the launch of the Windsor electric SUV that carries an entry price of INR 10 lakh, with a charge of INR 3.5 per km of run. The Comet EV promises a range of 230 kms on a single charge.
