Inspection by agency found no leakage in Kochi EV unit.
A day after a woman suffered burns from an EV charging unit, electrical inspectorate officials and the private agency which installed the charging station inspected the unit on Tuesday.

The inspection by the agency found no leakage in the unit. The electrical inspectorate will give a report to the KSEB later. "No fault has been found in the EV unit. We feel that the issue might be in the earthing system since the EV charging station is situated near the substation. We will take steps based on the report of the electrical inspectorate," said a KSEB official. The official added that once the report is submitted, they will have to look into the earthing systems of all EV units situated along the roads.

Swapna K L, a former councillor in North Paravur municipality, suffered burns while charging her car near the KSEB substation in North Paravur on Monday morning.

She is undergoing treatment at the hospital due to chest pain following the incident. When Swapna tried to put the charging gun back into the socket of the unit after charging a loud explosion accompanied by sparks ensued. She was thrown away in the impact and suffered burn injuries on her thumb and right thigh.

Swapna said she is still experiencing pain in her chest. "Blood samples have been collected for testing. We are awaiting test results," she said. Swapna had filed a complaint with the North Paravur police.

The charging unit where the incident happened remains closed to prevent further accidents.
