Reliance Industries appoints former Mahindra Electric VP Ashish Tarte as CTO- New Mobility

In its quest to develop new mobility technology solutions, Reliance Industries has further strengthened the leadership team of its New Mobility business. The major has appointed Ashish Tarte as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Reliance New Mobility. ETAuto learns that the new CTO has assumed office today. In the new role, he will report to Nitin Seth, CEO of Reliance New Mobility,

Tarte’s mandate is to oversee technological advancements, with a key focus on driving cutting-edge innovations in areas such as Mobility As A Service (MaaS), Battery As A Service (BaaS) , Hydrogen Engines (H2ICE), and other related areas for Reliance New Mobility’s Bengaluru division. These will be critical for sustainable mobility solutions in India, which Reliance plans to offer.

An industry veteran, with thirty years in the industry, Tarte brings expertise in both electric and ICE product and technology development. Before joining Reliance, he was COO & CTO of Lectrix EV (SAR Group), where he was instrumental in launching products like the born electric 2W LXS platform, and the Andaaz e-rickshaw.

Tarte entered the electric vehicle (EV) space with an internal transfer to Mahindra Electric (now Mahindra Last Mile Mobility) as Vice President- Product Development & CDMM (Component Development and Material Management). In that role he was responsible for the development of EVs like the e2O, e2O Plus, and the Treo 3-wheeler platform.

Prior to M&M, Tarte led operations and product development for Sonalika Group owned International Cars & Motors (ICML) as its COO. He was responsible for the ground-up development of the OEM’s first passenger vehicle, the Rhino Rx MUV, featuring a 2L BS4 CRDI powertrain.

He started his career in 1994 at Mahindra & Mahindra’s Vehicle Engineering (R&D) Dept in Nasik, and worked on multiple key projects like Marshal, Maxx, Bolero etc.

Tarte’s appointment can be seen as an important move by Reliance New Mobility to push technological advancements in the fast-evolving spaces of electric mobility and Hydrogen mobility in India.
