Fuel consumption in India: Diesel drops, while ATF and petrol rise in September

Diesel's growth stood at 8.93% over the same period, with a CAGR of 1.73%. Meanwhile, ATF and LPG have expanded by 10.19% and 24.58% respectively.
New Delhi: Diesel consumption in India saw a decrease of 2.06% in September 2024, dipping to 6,359 thousand metric tonnes (TMT), according to the latest data from the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC).

In contrast, Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) usage recorded a significant rise of 9.48%, totaling 720 TMT, indicative of a recovery in aviation activities.

The report also noted an increase in petrol consumption, which rose by 2.80% to reach 3,144 TMT. Similarly, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) usage saw a modest growth of 1.10%, amounting to 2,704 TMT.

Reflecting on longer-term trends, the PPAC highlighted that since September 2019, petrol consumption has surged by 32.54%, marking a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.80%. Diesel's growth stood at 8.93% over the same period, with a CAGR of 1.73%. Meanwhile, ATF and LPG have expanded by 10.19% and 24.58% respectively.
