Tata Tech & BMW Group launch BMW TechWorks India JV to drive automotive innovation; operations to start in Nov

BMW TechWorks India is set to provide seamless, scalable software solutions for next-generation vehicles and enhanced digital experiences.
Tata Technologies and BMW Group have officially launched their Joint Venture (JV), BMW TechWorks India, with operations beginning in Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai. This collaboration aims to drive innovation in automotive technology and business IT, leveraging India's engineering talent to scale to a four-digit workforce by the end of 2025 from the current three-digit' team strength in 2024. The join venture will start its operations in early November with 95-97% of headcount will be software developers.

BMW TechWorks India

BMW TechWorks India is set to provide seamless, scalable software solutions for next-generation vehicles and enhanced digital experiences. Tata Technologies will utilise its capabilities across the entire product value chain from conceptualization to detailed engineering and turnkey SDV development. The focus is to drive innovation in software projects for BMW's future mobility solutions while tapping into India's talent pool.

To drive strategic software solutions for SDV

The collaboration embodies the ethos of "Engineer in India for the World." India's exceptional engineering and IT talent will play a pivotal role in developing strategic software solutions for SDVs, automated driving, digital infotainment, and automotive digital services. The JV will also provide digital innovations for BMW Group's Business IT, aiding the digital transformation of the car manufacturer's global production and improving the digital customer journey and sales processes. Focus areas include developing AI applications and platforms to enhance the efficiency of core business processes.

Management team of BMW TechWorks India

The management team at BMW TechWorks India will include seasoned executives from both partner companies. Representing Tata Technologies are Aditya Khera as CEO and Sweta Girinatham as CFO. From the BMW Group, Stefan Flader will serve as COO of Enterprise IT, and Oliver Scheickl will hold the position of COO of Automotive Software.

The new venture's mission is clear – catalyse innovation in automotive technology and provide young Indian professionals with opportunities to work on game-changing technologies for the global market.
