After Vistara, now it seems like the problem is mounting for the leading carrier Air India as their technicians are planning a huge strike later this month. It has been reported that the workers are set to take the agitated route due to overwork on less pay scale.

As per the details shared by the NDTV, the All India Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Union wrote to the chief executive officer saying that technicians at AI Engineering Services Ltd. – a state-run maintenance, repair, overhaul firm and an erstwhile Air India unit, will go on a strike on April 23.

The steps will be taken to highlight the multiple issues, which are impacting the workers’ professional growth and well-being.

Here’s Why Workers Are Upset

It also has been informed by publication that the workers are upset due to fewer career advancement opportunities. Most of the technicians have not been promoted from their posts in the past seven years. The firm even promised to revise the payment scale for those who have been with the airline for the past two years. Again, the promise reportedly has not been fulfilled.

Contractual Workers

Amid this, the contractual workers, who make up the company’s overall 75 percent workforce also feel discriminated. The staff feels they are being treated differently compared to the permanent workers. They are being forced to serve longer notice periods and receive fewer benefits compared to permanent workers.

Impact on Air Travel

Meanwhile, an Air India representative said they are monitoring the situation closely. If things do not take a positive turn, it will impact the business and air travel as these technicians play an important role in operating an airline.
