India's mineral production rises 8% in February

The cumulative growth for the April-February period of 2023-24 over the corresponding period of the previous year is 8.2%, as per the provisional statistics of IBM, the mines ministry said.
New Delhi: India's mineral output rose 8% in February as compared to the year-ago period, the ministry of mines said on Thursday.

The index of mineral production of the mining and quarrying sector for February 2024 at 139.6 is 8% than February last year.

The cumulative growth for the April-February period of 2023-24 over the corresponding period of the previous year is 8.2%, as per the provisional statistics of Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), the mines ministry said in a statement.

In February, mineral production levels were as follows: coal at 966 lakh tonne, lignite at 42 lakh tonne, natural gas (utilized) at 2886 million cubic meters, Petroleum (crude) at 23 lakh tonne, bauxite at 2414 thousand tonne, chromite at 400 thousand tonne, copper concentrate at 11 thousand tonne, Gold at 255 kilograms, Iron ore at 244 lakh tonne, lead concentrate at 27 thousand tonne, manganese ore at 295 thousand tonne, zinc concentrate at 149 thousand tonne, limestone at 387 lakh tonne, phosphorite at 218 thousand tonne, and magnesite at 10 thousand tonne.

Minerals showing positive growth compared to February 2023 include gold (86%), copper concentrate (28.7%), bauxite (21%), chromite (21%), phosphorite (19%), limestone (13%), coal (12%), natural gas (11%), petroleum (crude) (8%), manganese ore (6%), magnesite (3%), lignite (2.8%), and zinc concentrate (2.8%). Negative growth was recorded for iron ore (-0.7%) and lead concentrate (-14%).
