Kochi Metro introduces Google Wallet for digital ticketing

Google Wallet is a digital wallet that allows a person to securely store his cards, tickets, passes, keys and IDs. The Google Wallet app can be downloaded from Android playstore.
After two days of the launch of Google Wallet in India, Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) introduced Google Wallet in the digital ticketing options for the metro commuters.

Google and KMRL on Friday announced their partnership in the integration of services between Google Wallet and KMRL which is powered by Prudent Technologies.

Kochi Metro is the first metro train service introducing the ticket system through the Google Wallet app.

Google Wallet is a digital wallet that allows a person to securely store his cards, tickets, passes, keys and IDs. The Google Wallet app can be downloaded from Android playstore.

As per the new facility, the commuters can directly purchase the QR code ticket of Kochi Metro trains through the Google Wallet app and can keep the ticket in the app to access during the travel. The commuters can also cancel the tickets through the Google Wallet app.

At the launch event, KMRL MD Shri Loknath Behra said that the facility would make the ticketing process easier for the passengers and it is expected to help Metro increase its ridership. “We are proud to announce a significant milestone in the digitalization of urban transportation with the integration of Google Wallet into our ticketing system. This collaboration represents a leap forward in enhancing the travel experience for our metro users, providing them with a streamlined and convenient way to access tickets and navigate our transit network”, he said.

Behera, who is also the MD of Kochi Water Metro Limited (KWML) also informed that the system would be extended also to the Water Metro services soon and he has already directed the digital wing of KWML to introduce the system as early as possible.

From transit passes issuance to cancellation – they’re there when you need them.”, said Ram Papatla, GM and India Engineering Lead of Android at Google. Geejo George, Director, Prudent Technologies said Google Wallet and KMRL integration marks a pivotal step in revolutionizing the digital experience.
