Ahmedabad is gearing up for another high-speed rail project, this time connecting to Delhi, after successfully securing a bullet train service to Mumbai.

With an average speed of 250km/hour on an elevated corridor, this new project promises to slash the travel time between the two bustling cities from 12 hours to just 3.5 hours.

The proposed train route, detailed in a finalized project report by the railways, will cover key stations including Himmatnagar, Udaipur, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Ajmer, Kishangarh, Jaipur, Rewari, and Manesar, as reported by TOI.

This development aligns with the BJP’s promise in their manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, aiming to have one bullet train each in the north, south, and east regions of India.

This new Ahmedabad-Delhi bullet train is part of the government’s plan to introduce six new high-speed rail projects across the country, aimed at bolstering connectivity and boosting tourism. The project, initiated by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRC) in September 2020, is currently awaiting final approval from the Centre.

Railway officials highlight that the approximately 900km elevated corridor between Ahmedabad and Delhi will significantly reduce travel time by around nine hours. Moreover, to expedite the planning process, aerial LiDAR surveys were conducted, ensuring minimal disruption to existing infrastructure.

The alignment of the tracks with the existing railway network has been carefully chosen to minimize land acquisition and avoid lengthy legal battles often associated with such mega projects. The service will commence from Sabarmati station, equipped with a multimodal hub, and will operate at a maximum speed of 350km per hour.

While the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train service is expected to kick off by July 2026, all eyes are now on the fast-approaching launch of the Ahmedabad-Delhi bullet train, poised to revolutionize travel between these two major cities.
