Maruti Suzuki to appeal in SC against INR 2.5 cr liability order from CESTAT, Chandigarh

The original total demand was made of INR 11.5 crore, however the revised total demand stands at INR 2.5 crore.
New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the largest Indian automaker, has informed about the order it has received from the Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT), Chandigarh. The company said that the order was received on 16th April 16, 2024, in matter of service tax liability under reverse charge basis on certain services that have been partially allowed.

The company stated, “The company has received an order dated 16th April 2024 from CESTAT, Chandigarh, wherein appeals filed by the company for period 18th April 2006 to 31st March 2010 in matter of service tax liability under reverse charge basis on certain services have been partially allowed.”

The original total demand was made of INR 11.5 crore, however the revised total demand stands at INR 2.5 crore. However, the company is going to file an appeal against the order before the Supreme Court, even on revised total demand of INR 2.5 crore, Maruti Suzuki said in its regulatory filings.

About the impact on financial, operation or other activities of the listed entity, the company said, “As per the company's view, the order will have no major impact on the financial, operation or other activities of the company.”
