Eid al-Adha, commonly known as Bakrid, is a highly significant Islamic festival celebrated worldwide. According to the Islamic calendar, the festival of Bakrid is celebrated on the tenth day of the 12th month, Eid-ul-Hajja. Bakrid is known as the Eid of Sacrifice. According to the Islamic calendar, this year the festival of Bakrid will be celebrated on June 16. As per Islamic tradition, it is considered very important to follow some rules before offering sacrifice on the day of Bakrid. Let us know in detail about these rules to be followed before Farz-e-Qurbani.
Maulana Alam Mustafa Yaqubi of Firozabad recently shared in a media interaction why the festival of Eid-ul-Azha is celebrated as a sacrifice. He said that when Hazrat Ibrahim started dreaming repeatedly about sacrificing his son for Allah, he told this to his son. On hearing this, his son accepted it as God’s will and immediately agreed. It is believed that God was testing his messenger, Ibrahim, through this sacrifice. It is believed that when Ibrahim went to sacrifice his son, the devil tried to distract his mind, but he did not waver at all, and he completed the sacrifice process by tying a blindfold around his eyes. It is believed that when Ibrahim was sacrificing his son, God removed his son and placed a goat in his place. The tradition of sacrificing on Bakrid has been going on in Islam since then until today.
Maulana Alam Mustafa Yaqubi further said that in Islam, some rules have been given regarding sacrifice that are necessary for everyone to follow. Keeping these rules in mind, the sacrifice is considered complete.
1. First of all, the animal to be sacrificed should be an adult.
2. Secondly, the animal should not be injured anywhere; its horns and legs should be safe.
3. After offering namaz, at the time of sacrifice, both the animal and the person sacrificing it should face Kaaba.
4. After the sacrifice, the animal should be divided into three parts, which are distributed among family members, relatives, and the poor.
5. If there is pretence in sacrificing, then one does not get the reward for it.
6. A person who already has debt cannot offer sacrifice. The person offering sacrifice should not have any kind of debt.
7. Sacrifice is not necessary for a person who donates two and a half percent of his income and keeps doing some work for the betterment of society, along with money.
