Rare Footage Shows Max Verstappen And Lewis Hamilton Hugging Each Other at Chinese GP

Over the last few years, the Formula One circuit has been dominated by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. If there is one driver who has come closest to challenging Verstappen’s sheer dominance in recent times, it has been Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.

A heartwarming moment captured by Lewis Hamilton’s car camera at the Chinese Grand Prix underlined the respect that both he and his adversary Max Verstappen have for one another.

The incident took place following the Sprint race, in which Lewis Hamilton led briefly following a great qualifying effort. He did not, however, manage to withstand Verstappen’s onslaught and ended up second behind the Red Bull driver.

The Footage from Lewis Hamilton’s car showed that the Mercedes driver fist-bumped Max Verstappen before the two congratulated each other for their respective sprint finishes. The duo also gave one other a hug to cap off what was a moment full of warmth and mutual respect between the two rivals.

Last week, Max Verstappen admitted that he did not believe that he shared a “difficult relationship” with Lewis Hamilton and that he has held out the olive branch. “I don’t think we have a difficult relationship at all – it is quite straightforward,” said Verstappen in an interview with Daily Mail.

“It’s just that with others you have a closer relationship. It depends to an extent on how you live your life, and perhaps we are not similar in that regard. Of course, we had a big rivalry in 2021 but ultimately we do have a lot of respect for each other. He is definitely up there as one of the greatest drivers ever. I have no need or desire to deny that. Consistency is his key, and staying on top of his game,” he added.

Max Verstappen extended his championship lead by winning the Chinese Grand Prix, which returned after a five-year hiatus. The three-time world champion finished 13.7 seconds ahead of second-placed Lando Norris. Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez finished at third spot. This was Verstappen’s fourth Grand Prix title of the season and his 58th overall.

With this win, Max Verstappen succeeded in increasing his lead over Sergio Perez at the top of the drivers’ championship to 25 points. In the constructors’ standings, Red Bull are currently 44 points clear of Ferrari.
