Chopra is one of 56 Indian sports athletes who have already booked a spot in the Paris Olympics 2024. His status for the tournament is direct, having met the set qualifying standard. The 2024 Paris Olympics qualifying mark is 85.50 metres which Neeraj surpassed in his first attempt last year at the World Athletics Championship. Commending the Indian javelin thrower’s performance, the World Athletics posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), “Showing how it’s done!! India’s Neeraj Chopra launches an absolute missile in the first round of the men’s javelin throw. 88.77m and a big Q to the final.”

Chopra has already established himself as an icon in the history of Indian athletics. He broke into prominence with a star performance at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Athletics Championships in Poland. He even set a U20 record in the tournament with a monster throw of 86.48 metres.

Chopra’s first major honour came at the 2018 Asian Games which was hosted in Jakarta, Indonesia. He won the gold medal at the event while recording a throw of 88.06 metres. More success followed the same year as he added another gold at the Commonwealth Games held in Australia. On August 7, 2021, Neeraj Chopra stole the headlines after becoming the first-ever Indian track and field athlete to secure a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. He is also currently just the second Indian to win Olympic gold since Abhinav Bindra’s 2008 triumph at the Beijing Olympics. Last year, Neeraj secured another gold in Budapest, after emerging triumphant at the World Athletics Championship.
