Manoj Bajpayee shot to fame after his role in Satya, and even the film industry admired his talent. That year, at an award show, Salman Khan was honoured for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai instead of Manoj for Satya, which surprised Salman. But Salman graciously acknowledged Manoj’s talent during his speech. Manoj shared this story in an interview with Pinkvilla, saying that they were both nominated for Best Supporting Actor, Salman for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Manoj for Satya.

He said, “This is absolutely true because we were all there. When they announced the name, the audience got quite upset and they were standing up and yelling for Bhikhu Mhatre.” He added, “Salman, when he went on stage, very gracious of him, he said, ‘I don’t know why they gave it to me. Manoj deserves this.’ He said that. To say something like that, one has to be large-hearted and Salman did that. I really felt good that there are such people in the industry.” Manoj then added that the same award ceremony actually honoured him for Best Actor (Critics) for his work in Satya.

Released in 1998, Satya, directed by Ram Gopal Varma, continues to be remembered as a pivotal moment in Indian cinema. The film not only introduced audiences to a gripping narrative but also showcased the brilliant direction of Ram Gopal Varma. Most notably, it served as a launching pad for Manoj Bajpayee’s exceptional acting prowess. . Made on a budget of Rs 2.5 crore, the film surpassed expectations by raking in a whopping Rs 15 crore at the box office.

The actor also opened up on working with Shah Rukh Khan in Veer Zara. He said, that for his character, Raza, Veer aka Shah Rukh Khan was a villain in the film. “When I am given a role, I think from the character’s perspective. Then I will be able to make it believable. That’s how my thought process was while approaching the role. For me, Shah Rukh was the villain (laughs). For Raza, Shah Rukh was a bad man. Since Raza was powerful, he could trap them. If he was not powerful, he would commit suicide somewhere, right? Or he would spend the rest of his life as ‘Devdas’. A man does whatever he can, in his own limits (laughs),” he said.

Manoj’s most recent appearance was in Silence 2, and he has already started filming for The Family Man 3. That apart, his upcoming movie, BhaiyyaJi, is set to be released on May 24, 2024.
