Former Liverpool player Dejan Lovren thanked Jurgen Klopp for showing him the way when things were not going in his favour. The Lyon centre-back played under Klopp from 2014 to 2020.

Recognising his former coach’s contributions, Lovren said, “You showed me the way how to get up when everyone beats you up. You showed me the way when nobody is believing in you, how to believe in yourself. You showed me the way how to be a man in difficult times. You showed me the way how to respect and love each other in thought moments.”

Dejan Lovren talked about how Jurgen Klopp supported him during a dark phase in his life. He also spoke about the lessons the ex-Liverpool manager had given him. “You are the one who was with me in my lowest point of my life. You listened and you told me some things which I will never forget. DANKE BOSS. Wish you all the best from the bottom of my heart”, Lovren concluded.

Along with the moving tribute, Lovren has also dropped a set of happy pictures featuring himself and his “Danke Boss”.

Jurgen Klopp announced his retirement earlier this season after nine years at Liverpool. Kloop said that he was ‘running out of energy’ and couldn’t do this job forever.

Speaking to the fans after a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton, Klopp said, “It doesn’t feel like an end, just feel like a start…People told me I turned you from doubter to believer, that’s not true. Believing is what you do yourself, you did it. Nobody tells you to stop believing, this club is in a better moment than for a long time”.

Dejan Lovren was Jurgen Klopp’s sergeant during his seven years at Liverpool. Despite being a dependable centre-back towards the beginning of the Klopp era, Lovren and his side fell short of winning some silverware in the first few years. He won his first trophy with the Merseyside in 2018-19, bagging the UEFA Champions League against Tottenham Hotspur. The following year, he played a crucial role in Liverpool’s Premier League triumph in a historic campaign, ending their 29-year drought.

Dejan Lovren’s seven-year stay at Anfield came to an end in July 2020. He made 185 appearances for The Reds, scoring eight goals and providing As per The Athletic, the footballer had become frustrated with his role as a fourth-choice centre-back for Klopp. He soon completed a £10.9 move to Zenit Saint Petersberg, helping them clinch a third-consecutive Russian league title. He next completed a return move to Lyon last year, signing a contract with them until 2025.
