The Indian government has issued a new security warning for millions of Android users with its latest bulletin courtesy, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) this week. The team has highlighted that these exploits have the potential to allow attackers to gain sensitive information and execute arbitrary code on your phone.

The new security vulnerability affects the following old and new Android versions:

– Android 12

– Android 12L

– Android 13

– Android 14

The number of phones running these versions in India should easily be over 30 million, which means the high severity ranked alert will be a worrying issue, not only for the users but the security agencies as well.

CERT-In Android Security Warning June 2024: What It Says

CERT-In highlights that multiple vulnerabilities exist within the framework, Google Play system updates, kernel, ARM components, MediaTek components, and Qualcomm close-sourced components.

These issues are deep-rooted into an Android smartphone and these manufacturers cater to security risks regularly. The list of brands includes the likes of Samsung, Realme, OnePlus, Xiaomi and Vivo who need to make sure they release security patches for these vulnerabilities right away.

It is vital that Google and its partners roll out the security patches that can fix the issues that have been informed by the Indian government. Because, “successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow the attacker to obtain sensitive information, gain elevated privileges and cause of denial of service conditions on the targeted system.”

Android Security Alert From CERT-In: How To Update The Software

Android users can go over to Settings – Software Update – Install Update – Restart phone to ensure the latest Android patch is installed on the device.
