Google Extends Gemini AI App To Older Android Phones: What You Need To Know

Google Gemini, formerly called Bard, has been in the headlines for a variety of reasons. The company had previously restricted the AI-powered chatbot to Android 12 or above versions, even though it is now accessible on the majority of Android smartphones.

But according to a new claim by Android Police, older Android 10 and Android 11-powered smartphones can still use the most recent Google Gemini APK (v1.0.626720042). Although Google appears to have discreetly updated the Play Store listing for Gemini to reflect the update, the official support website for the Gemini app from the company still states that Android 12 or later is required.

Millions of users who still use outdated phones will now be able to access Gemini thanks to the most recent upgrade. Previously, users of Android 10 and Android 11 had to access the AI chatbot online. Google Gemini, when installed, will take the role of the company’s feature-rich Google Assistant; nevertheless, the AI chatbot still utilises the previous digital assistant to process some queries.

In February, Google replaced its current Google Assistant software with a specialised Gemini AI app for Android handsets. Nevertheless, the software could only be used with Android 12 and later at the time of availability. Google updated the Play Store’s minimal requirements section for the Gemini app in its most recent update, letting users know that the software is compatible with Android 10 and Android 11.

To refresh your memory, Android 11 was revealed a few months following the COVID-19 epidemic in 2020, but Android 10 was released back in 2019. Google has been working hard to add new features to Gemini over the past few months.

In place of asking the chatbot to completely rewrite the content, the company last month unveiled a new tool that allows users to alter certain portions of the generated responses to suit their preferences. Additionally, according to a recent study, Gemini for Android may soon receive real-time responses akin to ChatGPT.

Apple appears to be interested in utilising Google’s AI chatbot on iPhones in addition to Samsung, which may provide it with a much-needed boost in the fiercely competitive AI market.
