Microsoft is hinging all its bets on the AI PC market and to that extent the company has now rebranded them as Copilot+ PCs that come with 16GB RAM, a Copilot key and advanced hardware tech to run AI applications. The company is hoping for brands like Asus, HP and Dell among others to sign up for these PCs that analysts expect will help the PC segment grow to new heights in the next few years.

Microsoft Copilot+ PCs: What Does It Offer

Microsoft has managed to get Qualcomm, Intel and AMD as well on board to make chips that will power the Copilot+ PCs in the next few years. It is imperative that PCs that will power the supposed AI features focus on power management as well, which is essential to run these apps that can be power-hungry, so the machine needs to manage the load to justify its running on the device.

The AI PC era will also show us if Microsoft can finally catch up with Apple’s M-series silicone or even better it with more resourceful products. Some of the comparisons with the Apple M3 MacBook Air already seem to be pointing towards a solid upgrade but paper talk needs to convert into real-time performance upgrades.

Having 16GB RAM on board seems like the minimum now for the Windows 11 PCs but that also means you spend a lot more to buy/upgrade to these AI PCs.

Microsoft Adds Recall To AI PCs: What It Means

As you might know, Microsoft partnered with OpenAI which helped with the development of Copilot. The AI assistant running on Windows 11 PCs is ChatGPT with Microsoft’s interface layer. The Copilot + PCs take this integration deeper, including a new feature called Recall. Microsoft says the tool will help people find items, files and even their search activity on the PC itself.

The company wants you to trust these AI PCs with every task so that one day, these AI assistants can guide you with the next step towards a project or command. It also pointed out that Recall has a photographic memory of your virtual activity on the Windows PC.

But tracking at this level could leave you prone to possible misuse given the power the AI assistant has been offered. Microsoft says all the data processing is done on the device thanks to the AI processor that also has a neural engine. Users will be given the choice of stopping their activity from being tracked as well.

Microsoft and the entire PC industry is placing all its bets on the AI PCs but they quickly need apps to justify or at least show us the potential of the hardware that is slowly making its way into the market.
