Microsoft announced its new suite of AI features and one of them got many people intrigued. The feature called Recall basically helps Windows users plan for their next move by offering them the path using their previous web and PC activities. Microsoft pointed out the tech will keep taking screenshots of the PC and use AI tech to give you the best results.
However, this has got people worried, especially Elon Musk, who cited this feature as a ‘Black Mirror episode,” which is a popular sci-fi show that shows the dystopian future on the planet for humans.

He even said, “definitely turning this feature off,” referring to Recall that will be available Windows with the new Copilot + PCs that will be coming to the market in the near future. The company says that a Copilot+ PCs will have 16GB RAM, a Copilot key and advanced hardware tech to run AI applications.
Microsoft’s Recall Hits The Concern Table
The Copilot + PCs take this integration deeper, including a new feature called Recall. Microsoft says the tool will help people find items, files and even their search activity on the PC itself.
The company wants you to trust these AI PCs with every task so that one day, these AI assistants can guide you with the next step towards a project or command. Satya Nadella, CEO, Microsoft has also been quoted saying that Recall will remember and understand everything a person does on a computer by taking constant screenshots.
Nadella did mention that the data will be processed on-device and will only work on the Microsoft Edge browser, but even then, concerns raised by Musk and many others are legitimate. After all, tech companies have a history of going back on their promise, and for all we know, the advancement of AI could make it harder for these companies to adhere to the required privacy norms in the foreseeable future.
We also expect the regulatory bodies to keep an eye out for Microsoft over Recall which completely works through its ecosystem and not opening to other third-party apps which could be linked to the control it has but questions ought to be raised.
