The Princess of Wales, Catherine aka Kate Middleton and King Charles III appeared together on the Buckingham Palace balcony for the first time on Saturday since both began their cancer treatments.

Kate Middleton joined the Royal Family to watch the RAF’s Red Arrows’ flypast, a signature aspect of the Trooping of Colours event, marking her triumphant return to public life as she undergoes chemotherapy.

In a touching gesture from the monarch, Kate stood next to King Charles, unlike last year when Prince William stood beside him.

Catherine, Princess of Wales, on Saturday tentatively returned to UK public life for the first time since being diagnosed with cancer, attending a military parade in London to mark King Charles III’s official birthday.

Kate, as she is widely known, travelled in a state carriage alongside her three children at the outset of the annual event before watching the ceremonial proceedings from a viewing point.

Her tentative return comes nearly three months after the princess revealed she was receiving chemotherapy treatment. She had not been seen at a public engagement since a Christmas Day service last year.

King Charles III and his daughter-in-law Catherine, Princess of Wales, have been battling cancer and ill health since the start of this year but both are now making tentative returns to public life.

Buckingham Palace on February 5 announced that Charles has been diagnosed with a form of cancer and has begun treatment. They said that the cancer was detected during his hospital procedure when he was admitted at The London Clinic for a corrective procedure to treat a benign enlarged prostate. It did not specify the type of cancer.

In an emotional video message, Kate informed the world on March 22 that she has cancer and has begun chemotherapy. She says she is “well and getting stronger every day” but asks for “time, space and privacy” as she completes her treatment. Charles at the time said that he is “so proud of Catherine for her courage” as good wishes pour in for her from around the world.
