UK royals Prince Harry and King Charles will not meet during the latter’s visit to the UK this week, broadcaster BBC said in a report. The father and the son, whose relationship has soured following the latter’s allegations against his own family, will not meet because of King Charles’s “full programme”.
A spokesman for Prince Harry said that he won’t meet King Charles as he visits the UK to attend an event marking a decade of the Invictus Games but he “hopes to see him soon”.
His elder brother, Prince William, who also now shares a fractured relationship with his younger brother will also not be present at the event on Wednesday.
Prince Harry visited the UK in February to visit his ailing father King Charles when the latter was diagnosed with cancer.
“The duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon,” a statement from Duke Of Sussex Prince Harry’s spokesman said.
Harry is in the UK to attend an event marking the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. The Invictus Games are a sports event for wounded and injured service men and women, both serving and veterans.
The BBC report said that there will be a service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral in London. Prince Harry is expected to give a reading there and actor Damian Lewis will recite a poem.
Neither King Charles and Prince William nor Catherine, the Princess of Wales are expected to attend the event. The Princess of Wales is also undergoing cancer treatment.
After the event, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle will visit Nigeria on the invitation of Nigeria’s chief of defence staff, who met Prince Harry during the Invictus Games held last year in Germany.
The Invictus Games will be held either in Birmingham in the UK or Washington DC in the US in 2027.
The King began to return to public engagements last week while continuing treatment for his cancer. His gradual return to public engagements was allowed by his medical advisers.
